Try ombre curls!
Style inspiration can suddenly spring from unexpected sources. It can also be something so totally simple that it feels silly to call it inspiration!
We ran into a French starlet Maeva Meline at the opening party for a new Bonobo jeans shop in Paris, France on 20 September 2012. Maeva, an actress and singer in her own right, sings the part of Merida in the French version of Pixar film "Brave" (in French, it's called "Rebelle.")
But this time, we weren't focusing on Maeva's voice. We were all about her look.
The singer has her hair dyed in the trendy ombre shade -- dark at the top moving to sunkissed tips. But what we loved was the fact that she curled her locks! So often, ombre hair is worn stick straight... take a look at Carly Rae Jepsen, for example. Wearing the look straight has its advantages as it clearly shows the change in colour in your hair. But we loved the Maeva's pretty curls! Girly and delicate, they fell across her shoulders in the nicest way.
How to do classic curls
Curls like Maeva's are easy to do with a curling iron or flat iron. Wrap your hair around the iron and hold the iron in a vertical position. Count to 20 (you may need more or less time depending on your hair thickness.) When you pull the iron out, don't unwrap the curl. Instead, just slide the iron out still holding it vertically. This preserves the curl a little better. You know what else preserves the curl? A nice squirt of hairspray!
Maeva just curled the ends of her hair, letting the rest-- including her long fringe -- fall naturally.
Keep up on the fashion trends
We should have known that Mademoiselle Maeva is a trendy one with her dip-dye 'do. So her fuschia lipstick should come as no surprise!
Try 'em out yourself! The ombre look is kind of like the old trend of highlighting-- a great look for someone who isn't quite sure they want to do the huge plunge of totally changing their style... but wants a new look!
