Smouldering black eyes: a look that packs a punch

There were quite a few black eyes at the 2012 NCLR ALMA Awards in Los Angeles on 16 September and not because the celebs decided they would have a punch-up on the red carpet. The uber-intense eyeliner that the ladies were sporting is part of a growing trend in celeb-land.

A look that packs a punch

Nicole Richie teamed her black and gold outfit with charcoal eyeshadow and lashings of eyeliner for a super seductive look. She kept the rest of her make-up natural with just a touch of nude lipstick and skin-matched foundation. Her two-tone tresses were swept up allowing her eyes to take centre stage.

Naya Rivera's eyeliner was reminiscent of Jessica Rabbit: she paired nude lipstick and natural foundation with XXL lashes for a fluttery look. Her hair was down in a volumised 'do that framed her face and helped show off her show-stopping eyes.

Extra-intense

Our beloved ambassador Eva Longoria combined soft purple eyeshadow with extra intense catflick eyeliner. She stuck with the uniform natural foundation and nude lipstick trend to keep all the emphasis on those enticing doe eyes.

Statement looks are all the rage on the red carpet at the moment with bold outfits, bright accessories and intense eyes popping up everywhere from fashion shows to film premieres. With Halloween only weeks away the trend of deep dark eyeshadow is set to explode. Watch out, Morticia Addams.

How to make a statement with your eyes

If you want to create a look that Cleopatra would be proud of, let your eyes take centre stage: make them as big and bold as you like, incorporate false lashes and dark eyeshadow, but keep the rest of your make-up toned down. Nude lips and natural foundation work perfectly with this look. Avoid bright lipstick or statement foundation and think of your eyes as the centre piece of your look for intense impact!
