Side-swept waves: the look of this week
We saw two fantastic side-swept looks on the red carpet yesterday during the 'Savage' premiere in Los Angeles with Blake Lively's retro starlet curls and Sandra Echeverria's romantic waves. Guess it is the look of the week, no matter what side of the Atlantic you are on.
At the glamorous (and we mean ULTRA-glamorous) tenth anniversary party for the Spanish edition of Glamour on 25 June 2012, our girl Lily Donaldson swept us away with her side-swept blonde waves!
A marriage of the best
You might say that Lily combined Sandra and Blake's styles in her look. Like Sandra, she went for loose waves in her long locks (which happen to be just as blonde as Blake's tresses.)
Lily Donaldson's floor-length gown trailed elegantly along the (Italian) marbled floors of the Italian Embassy. The dress, albeit black, channelled a bit of Sandra Echeverria's white look with its delicate beaded detail.
Lily outlined her eyes in black eye-liner and finished off the look with retro red lipstick.
.. just like Blake!
How do I get this fantastic look?
Side-swept hair can be worn in lots of different ways. Let it cascade over your shoulder or pull it into a loose pony for a romantic look. For an 80s look, pull your hair tightly!
The key to the look is to do an extreme side-parting. Draw the line at roughly the midpoint of your eye-brow. Add a bit of volume to your hair by teasing it and spritzing on some hairspray.
To hold your hair on one side, don't be afraid to add extra hairspray to the back. You can even sneak in a few pins! Lily Donaldson did... she just made sure to hide them under a loose lock!
What do I wear with this look?
This look is perfect for any shirt or frock with a low back or interesting back detail! As these three stars show, the side-swept hairstyle can be paired with almost any look!
