Retro reverie with Marion Cotillard
Marion Cotillard walked right out of the 40s and onto the red carpet for the European premiere of the latest in the Batman saga.
The French actress seemed to dance between raindrops in her demure vintage-inspired dress. While she duly posed for the flashing cameras, Marion seemed to be miles away, as if daydreaming about her soldier boy gone off to war.
Touches of scarlet
Marion's vintage-inspired dress was made up of a strapless orange cami and a black and white checked skirt cinched with a patent leather belt.
But it was her retro red accessories that really dazzled. Marion chose a vibrant scarlet shade for her clutch, her pointed heels and her lips .
She gave extra emphasis to these carefully chosen pieces by minimizing everything else. If Marion wore nail varnish, it was clear. She wore a simple ring and an even simpler silver bracelet. She left her chest refreshingly clear; there was no necklace in sight.
Lips
Once again, Marion went classic and understated for her beauty look. After applying a light foundation (clear enough to let her pretty beauty spot show), she defined her cheeks with blusher and lengthened her lashes with black mascara.
Her ruby red lips were the kiss of perfection on her look. And oh, those lips... We imagine them pressed to a handwritten letter bound for a lovesick man far, far away.
A secret
While her Batman co-star Anne Hathaway had to chop off her locks for a film role, Marion Cotillard took a sneaky route to short hair with a faux bob.
After letting loose waves fall loose in the front, she artfully pinned her dark locks under in the back to give the impression that she had the perfect short Parisian cut... and was able to return to her pretty brunette tresses after the premiere.
After seeing how well she hid her locks, we might rewrite our Marion daydream. Perhaps we had it all wrong. Maybe she was a spy after all.
Lasting impression
Marion's look may have been 40s-inspired vintage, but we'd wager that it'll be remembered as timeless.
