Quartet movie trailer with Maggie Smith, Billy Connolly and Michael Gambon

by Kathy Saunders - Tuesday October 30, 2012 - 10h00

The trailer for "Quartet" was revealed over the weekend. The film features cinema's finest Maggie Smith, Billy Connolly and Michael Gambon and the quintet is completed by director Dustin Hoffman.

The film is set in a home for retired opera singers who are kept alive and well by resident doctor Lucy Cogan, played by Sheridan Smith (check out her look from the film's premiere at London Film Festival). One day, Jean Horton (played by Maggie Smith) turns up and disrupts life as the residents know it.

Jean Horton is not only the ex-wife of one of the other residents, she also refuses to join in with the home's annual concert in tribute to Giuseppe Verdi. Jean is afraid to sing, lest she tarnish the memory of her former glory, but without her, the show cannot go on.

Will the other residents convince her to take to the stage?

Well, you'll have to get yourself to a cinema when it comes out in UK cinemas on 4 January 2013 (or 28 December 2012 if you're in the USA)!

In the meantime, you can catch Academy Award winner Maggie Smith in the current series of "Downton Abbey", every Sunday at 9pm (GMT).
