Princess Maxima of the Netherlands graces Brunei
The Dutch royals were getting into the tropical spirit and sporting vibrant ensembles on their two-day trip to Brunei this week. Princess Maxima, Prince Willem-Alexander and Queen Beatrix are visiting Brunei, on the island on Borneo, as part of their tour around the sovereign state and Queen Beatrix and Princess Maxima commemorated the trip with bright frocks.
Borneo seems to bring out the playful side in the royals; even the UK's Prince William, who is usually suited and booted, donned a Hawaiian shirt on his visit to the island last year.
Sun-inspired
Beatrix led the colourful trend when she sported a sunset orange ensemble for a State Banquet. The following day, Maxima followed suit as she visited the headquarters of Brunei Shell Petroleum wearing a sunshine yellow trouser suit. It was definitely daring... if a little unflattering paired with a dorky, mini hat fascinator.
Princess chic
The princess has rocked a number of different outfits on her visits, but, like our own Duchess of Cambridge, who also visited Borneo with William last September, she has maintained her chic and elegant style.
We wonder if that fascinator was inspired by Kate, too. On that matter, the jury is out, but they do agree on one point - Maxima likes to wear her hair up.
We loved: The gold diamante-encrusted dress, paired perfectly with Maxima's elegant chignon and bejewelled tiara. Here's how to get the same one yourself !
Making history
Queen Beatrix made history on her lavish visit by becoming the first Dutch head of state to visit the Sultanate of Brunei since it became independent from the rest of Borneo in 1984. Upon leaving Borneo, the Dutch royals will head to Singapore.... they are sooooo copying Will and Kate!
