Miss Aly Raisman, fashionista gymnast
Most athletes live, breathe and eat their sports in order to get to an almost superhuman level. But when they are not training like machines, many of them like to ditch their sporty outfits for something stylish. We saw the tennis girls letting their hair down at a party in London during the summer and, yesterday in New York, it was gymnast Aly Raisman's turn.
Earlier this summer, Aly was at the London 2012 Olympics busy accepting her gold medal for her impressive gymnastic skills. But yesterday, she left her leotard at home and was sitting front row at the "Badgley Mischka fashion show" during the NY Fashion Week in a one-shouldered, black and grey number. She teamed the zig-zag-embellished dress with red heels, bejewelled earrings and a matching ring. Her chocolate tresses, usually pulled tightly back, were left loose in a side-swept style. Aly also sported a touch of eyeliner and some trendy pink lipstick.
Dedication
The self-confessed fashionista is currently travelling across the U.S. as part of a 40-city post-Olympic tour. The visit to New York included the fashion show, photo shoots and interviews. Instead of having a break after her outstanding Olympic success, the poor girl is STILL competing, albeit in another realm.
Now that's what we call dedication! No doubt it would have been nice for her to be a spectator for a change when she was in New York.
Aly was all about it. Earlier in the day, she tweeted: "Good morning NYC!!! So excited for the Badgely Mischka show this morning!"
Resilient
One thing that her pretty frock did reveal were her badly bruised knees. While not a fashion statement, they are certainly a sign of a resilient and strong young woman. She told philly.com the injury occurred in Indianapolis where the mats were shorter than normal and she tumbled off, hitting the concrete.
She said: "They're both definitely sore but I'll be fine."
Despite the hiccup, she is off to San Diego today for another competition! Wow.
Future designer
Judging by Aly's very public love for shopping and fashion (all over Twitter), we have no doubt that we will be seeing much more of the 18-year-old at fashion events to come. Who knows, she might just do a Serena Williams and start designing. Watch this space!
