Katy Perry: Marilyn in Technicolor
Everyone's talking about Katy Perry at the moment. With a new single on the way and a movie about to hit the box office, Katy's pretty face is everywhere we turn!
"Katy Perry: Part of Me," set for release in the UK on the 5th of July, documents the singer's off-screen and on-screen life, from her days as a gospel singer to present-day global superstar. The 3D movie takes us through her highs and lows, happiness and heartbreaks, giving us a 360° view of what it's really like to be Katy Perry.
The film's premier took place on 26 June 2012 in LA. It goes without saying that Katy took our breath away once more with yet another unpredictable outfit choice.
The singer made sure she stood out above all the industry's big names with an eye-catching colour scheme of scarlet red and deep purple. After all, this was her night. Katy delved into the past to find inspiration for this evening's outfit, looking as if she'd just stepped right out of the fifties. Her red velvet dress and prim, purple curls combined to transform her into a modern-day Marilyn Monroe... with just as much red carpet charisma!
Here's a closer look...
In keeping with her fifties'-style dress and hair, Katy went for doll-faced make-up.
She showed she meant business with a flawless porcelain complexion, which she achieved using a full-coverage foundation. A sweep of coral blush was used to perk up her cheekbones.
To create big, bright eyes, Katy swept a warm bronze eyeshadow across her eye-lids and sported super long lashes. To get them looking as natural as possible, a bold line of liquid liner was applied across the upper lash line before application, and a coat of mascara afterwards to blend in her natural lashes and wake up her lower lashes. And finally, the fifties look would not have been complete without a cherry red lipstick-- a shade chosen as a perfect match for her dress.
As for her hair, achieving those voluminous vintage curls was no easy feat. Katy's purple hair was wrapped around large heated rollers section by section, a very delicate operation so that not a hair is left out place! Once cooled, the rollers were removed to reveal voluputuous retro curls. A strong-hold hairspray locked them in place to ensure she looked fabulously fifties all night long.
