Kasia Smutniak is one with the red carpet
When striking a pose, Kasia Smutniak seems to get a lot of inspiration from her natural environment.
Example: In the first photo shoot of the 2012 Venice International Film Fest, the festival host embodied as sea nymph as she frolicked in the surf of the Mediterranean.
Then, for the first premiere of Venice 2012, Kasia once again looked like she was emerging from the backdrop... which, this time, happened to be the red carpet.
In fact, the colour-coordination was so spot-on that the effect was almost eerie. A glimpse of Kasia, her simple chignon and her arching neck melted into her glowing red neckline, which dissolved in turn into the dress/carpet. Her elegant V-cut backline dipped dangerously towards the carpet below, a seamless alternation between rich red fabric and delicate skin.
With the look, the Polish-born actress and model (who is host to this year's festival) must have been trying to reaffirm her ownership of the proceedings. Her look states that no other could so artfully play figurehead to the festival. We don't deny it.
Working the red
Kasia isn't the first star to play with the idea of the red carpet in creating her look. At the 2012 edition of the Cannes International Film Festival, Cheryl Cole went for a similar trompe-de-l'oeil fashion effect. Her pretty white dress blended into a fiery red train, making it seem for the cameras as if she was a phoenix bursting from the red carpet.
There is no better way to show ownership of the red carpet. We are one...
