How to get the perfect smokey-eye look
Smokey eyes are a classic make-up look and a favourite amongst celebrities. Recently, stars such as Cheryl Cole, Doutzen Kroes, Jessica Alba, Mila Kunis, Olivia Palermo and Florence Welch have all been spotted with them.
Whether on the red carpet, a magazine cover or on stage, smokey eyes always make an impact.
Follow our step-by-step guide and your gaze will be smouldering before you know it...
Remember:
Blending is key! As a very general rule, concentrate the darker colours along your lashline and in the very outer edge of your eyelid.
Step one:
Begin by applying a neutral eyeshadow. This creates a smooth base which absorbs any oils on the eyelid and makes sure that the make-up lasts longer.
Step two:
Apply a shimmering eyeshadow of your choice to add some light to your eyes.
Step three:
Next, apply a darker shade, a grey or brown for example, over the top. You don't need to black out the bottom colour, just apply a light dusting. Blending is the key! Make sure you brush towards your brow-bone.
Step four:
Use a dark eyeshadow along your lashline, blending it with the other colours. You can also add some dark colour to your outer corner. Line the lower lashline, too, for a more dramatic look.
Step five:
Go over the dark shadow outline with black eyeliner on the upper lashline to intesify the look.
Step six:
Finally, apply a coat or two of lash-lengthening black mascara to both the upper and lower lashes to finish off the look.
Now sit back, relax and take a look at your sexy eyes in the mirror.
