How to do the cowboy look
What is it about the Wild West that captures our imagination? Why do we keep returning to the stetson hats sported by cowboys, the chaps and the embroidered boots? Is it the adventure? The innate desire to be untamed?
One thing is certain: we're getting on for two hundred years since the golden age of the west and this look has FAR from ridden off into the sunset.
Nope, the cowboy look is live and kicking and, most probably, making an appearance on a runway near you...
...Even if you are in Paris, which may seem one of most unlikely places for cowboy style to take hold. But, believe it or not, it has. Cowboy style took centre stage during Fall-Winter 2012-13 Fashion Week in Paris, most notably at the show of designer Isabel Marant.
Granted, there were some updates. For even if we reminisce about that age of cowboys and the wide, open trail, we do tend to prefer an age with showers, deoderant, and, let's face it, make-up.
What hair and make-up should I pair with the cowboy look?
Let's face it, we aren't going to get inspiration from real cowboys, who were all pretty grubby and bristly.
Never fear, you can go for an ultra-feminine look with your boots and embroidered shirt. In fact, we recommend something girly. If you are feeling romantic about it all, adopt the look with soft tones, pink lips and side-swept waves... a bit like Victoria's Secret model Jourdan Dunn at a recent event.
On the other hand, you could also go cowgirl bold with your pointy boots. Why not try bright red lipstick? Or fuchsia? Pair it with some cat-eye eyeliner and you'll have them falling out of their saddles.
