Big hair is, well, big at London Fashion Week
We've said it before and we will no doubt say it again, retro is ruling the red carpet right now and if there is a mantra to be followed for retro hair, it is that BIG is best! Volume-heavy styles can dress up a block colour outfit and will add a bit of glamour to an otherwise low-key look. With London fashion week in full swing, we have seen tons of retro styles both on and off the runway.
At the "Tata Naka Presentation" during London fashion week yesterday, we spied a lot of vintage-inspired frocks with, you guessed it, big retro waves. Add perfectly paired retro make-up: pink lips, heavy eyeliner, bold pink lipstick and a Marilyn Monroe-style beauty spot.
Show-stealing
If you want to turn heads, then go for big hair: it grabs attention and let's face it, it's pretty cool by anyone's standards. It's a great look for a night out with the girls as well as for a dinner out with your man.
As we are feeling particularly generous we have decided to share some stylists' secrets with you that are useful whether you want an Amy Winehouse bouffant or Marilyn Monroe waves.
Pump up the volume
Use volumising shampoo and conditioner and pay special attention to your ends. For extra lift, blow dry your hair upwards directing hot air towards the roots. For extra oomph, flip your hair over as you dry. Use a flat backed brush to tease your hair. This is kinder than using a comb but just as effective.
Hairspray: a big hair staple
We all know that hairspray is a must have for sustaining volume, but be sure to use it with caution. Too much all it once will lay it down like a sack of spuds. Instead, spray onto your hands and spread through your hair or create a cloud of spray and walk through it. Alternatively, you can cheat by crimping your hair to add volume and then smoothing over the top as you would with teased hair.
