5 hair trends for the Spring/Summer 2012 season
Let's zoom in on the five most popular hair trends we saw at the spring/summer 2012 catwalks. This season, it's all about eclectic looks (much to our delight!)
1. The Turban
The top trend this season has to be the turban. We spied it at the Kevork Kiledjian spring/summer 2012 catwalk in New York, presented in a summery style with a khaki-green scarf decorated with pink flowers covering the hair. A similar style was seen on Anna Sui's catwalk, using a glittery gold and colour print scarf decorated with a brooch.
2. Wet hair
Another style on display this season is wet hair, which was everywhere on Alexander Wang's catwalk. This look varies between softly gelled hair and hair that looks downright damp for a just-got-out-the-bath look. The best way to get this look is use a sea-water spray on your hair, then work it through with your fingers for a natural look.
3. 40s starlet
The 40s look is also very in this season.
The sex symbol Rita Hayworth wore her hair with a side parting and sexy waves back in the day. We found this glamorous hairstyle backstage at English designer Piers Atkinson's catwalk. Who is Piers Atkinson, you may ask? He's an extravagant hat-maker who counts Kate Middleton and Lady Gaga among his clients!
4. The Quiff
The quiff has also been one of this season's star hairstyles which we've seen on almost every celebrity. This look is given volume with geometric forms which go well with retro eye-liner. We found this backstage at The Blonds catwalk. The quiff is a hairstyle which needs lots of work with the hairbrush, but is worth it!
5. Boyish
Finally, we come to the boyish trend, which follows the example of styles borrowed from the men's wardrobes. This look entails short styles and bits of hair left loose or gelled back like at Thierry Colson's spring/summer 2012 catwalk. Match this hairstyle with feminine make-up and glamorous red lips for a sexy look!
